Labeling of gluten-free products
Being able to make a safety gluten-free diet starts with the product labeling. And many of us do not know that those who have been diagnosed with celiac disease need more time at the supermarket to make the purchase in an appropriate way. Everything would be easier if the food got a good label and there were none of those obstacles that often arise.
The logo you see on the Amandin gluten-free products like the Organic Tiger-nut beverage , organic stocks and organic creams, among others, is the official logo created by the Generalitat de Catalunya in collaboration with the Catalan Association of Celiacs, which aims to inform and warn consumers of foods that contain gluten.
Amandín signed an agreement of collaboration with the Generalitat de Catalunya in 2008 for the improvement of food products labeling useful for people with celiac disease. Since then, the Amandin products which do not contain gluten or contain it in a proportion lower than 20 ppm, are properly labelled with the official logo.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between intolerance to lactose or to milk proteins?
Intolerance to milk proteins is really a food allergy in which the protein is detected by the immunological system generating an allergic reaction whereby antibodies are generated, reacting with the allergens to eliminate them.
In lactose intolerance, on the other hand, the adverse reaction is caused by a deficiency or low activity from the lactase enzyme required to break down lactose into its two simple sugars (galactose + glucose). When lactose is not transformed into its simple sugars, it is fermented by intestinal flora in the large intestine producing flatulence, pain and diarrhoea.
Is Amandín fish stock certified as organic?
Although 87% of its vegetable-based ingredients have been obtained according to organic production standards, our AMANDÍN fish stock is not certified, as until now it has not been possible to get fish with organic certificates.
We are currently awaiting organic certification for our fish stock.
Are Amandín stocks suitable for people on a gluten-free diet?
Our chicken and fish stock and our stew stock do not contain ingredients with gluten, so they are suitable for people who suffer from gluten intolerance.
In the case of our vegetable stock, the flavouring used contains wheat and this therefore appears in the list of ingredients.
However, the quantity of gluten present in the final product is under 20 mg/kg, meaning that according to Regulation 41/2009 on the composition and labelling of products for people with gluten intolerance, it could be labelled as ‘gluten-free’ and it is therefore suitable for people following such a diet.
How long can an open carton of Amandín beverage be left in the fridge?
Opening the product breaks the sterile seal from the UHT process we use in packaging the products, so the product must be consumed within the next three days.
Although most foods can be consumed without any problems, some may cause
adverse reactions in a small percentage of the population.
These adverse reactions might be due to “food allergies” or “food intolerance”. Food allergies or intolerances should not be confused with food poisoning caused by
consuming products that have gone off or with other factors such as psychological aversion to a certain food.
